About
Our Story
Established in January 2018, Photo Surfaces is a side project by photographer Madelene Farin, that started with a need for unique photography backgrounds and surfaces, and her longtime love of painting.
To her there’s nothing more beautiful than something old, weathered, and textured, something with history. During her year-long travel with Alex, she came across so many of these distressed surfaces - from water-worn walls in Indonesia to sun-faded facades in Colombia. Today Madelene uses photos and memories of those places as inspiration for the backgrounds she paints.
Our Surfaces
We source 100% artist grade solid wood panels for our photography surfaces. The smooth wooden boards have 7/8” - 2" profiles and are cradled with a solid frame that won’t warp, stretch, or bend. The high-quality, well-crafted pieces are good enough for any fine artist, and are the perfect setting for all food and product photography, with their imperfections and subtle variations in texture and tone.
About Madelene
Originally from Los Angeles, she is a professional photographer with a background in design, painting, and psychology. She has an MFA in Photography from Academy of Art University, and has worked with established photographers in San Francisco, as well as a growing list of food and tech clients of her own.
Madelene’s award-winning photography has been recognized by APA and PDN, and has been featured in BBC Travel, The Guardian, SAUVER, and more.
